If my system is not is a windows Domain, do I need to enter anything in the domain field?

No, username and password are all you need for a non-domain system.

I left the screen open and now a message says I have been logged out. What happened?

As a security feature you are logged out after a period of inactivity.

When I login as a valid user, I still end up back on the login screen. What happened?

The Internet Explorer browser privacy level for cookies or security level are set too high.

I browse to the system and it says "page not found". What happened?

A common cause is that the system was installed with SSL enabled, but you have not specified "https" in the URL. Another reason could be the SyAM web service has been stopped on that system. Verify the system is running and the SyAM web service is enabled and running.
